Villány and its vicinity Tour

A wonderful region situated in the Southern parts of Hungary, a true enogastronomic heaven of the county. The town of Villány and its surrounding are famous for their historic wine-making traditions, but beside the excellent grape juice, there can be found some hidden gems of artisanal gastronomy as well, worth to be discovered.

Overview

Villány is situated in the most southern part of the country, just within a stone’s throw from the Hungarian-Croatian border. During the Turkish occupation, the population significantly decreased in numbers and the region needed to be recolonized; that’s when the “Danube Swabians” arrived, creating an interesting German-Hungarian melting pot of food and culture in the region.

Villány is the warmest part of Hungary – having the highest number of sunny hours yearly –, with conditions reminding of a Mediterranean climate. Due to the slope’s excellent position and the weather conditions, Villány and the hills nearby are an ideal place for vineyards. Wine-making, in this part of Hungary has a very old tradition, dating back to the Roman times; and the expertise acquired during the hard-working centuries, resulted in producing excellent red wines; worthily famous nationwide and internationally as well. The region, traditionally a land of crimson-coloured red wines, embraced also the rising popularity of rosé wines, and offers exceptional wines also in this lighter category.

However, Villány and its neighbourhood is not a paradise only for wine-lovers, but also for food-lovers. There are numerous artisanal food producers; small family-run businesses carrying on old traditions and merging them with innovation, creating excellent artisanal products – for sure worth to be discovered and appreciated.

What we offer

.

The capital of Hungary is truly like a treasure chest. A chest of which if you open the lid, you’ll find plenty of beautiful things. You’ll find buildings with stunning architecture, ranging from Roman through Baroque to Art Nouveau; you’ll find spots offering breath-taking panorama; you’ll find signs of another era through the Turkish-style bath-houses, and you’ll find a tangible past through the bullet-holes on buildings witnessing dark and hard times. Budapest is a paradise for explorers; let us help you to experience it in the best way possible!

You are visiting Budapest and would like to visit something also outside of the capital, but don’t really know where to go, what to do and how to get there? We organise trips to places situated just outside of Budapest, reachable within half-an-hour. These are half-day programs, ideal for taking a break from the capital’s busy flow, and experience a bit different reality as well. Browse our programs, and whether you opt for the Baroque castle tour or for another program, we’ll do our best to make it an unforgettable experience.

Budapest occupies less than 1% of Hungary’s territory; meaning that if you don’t leave the capital, you’re experiencing just a tiny part of the country. If you wish to discover the secret world outside the capital’s border, choose our day-trips, and we’ll take you to places and make you live adventures, you’d never come across without the help of a local. Come and immerse yourself in the beauty of the Hungarian countryside, accompanied by a glass of wine!
